Today I walked into my local Borders and asked them to stock King of Dragons, King of Men which is, in retrospect, an annoyingly long title. And the guy said, "Okay, we'll order ten copies. When they arrive come in and do a signing." And I went home and spent the afternoon watching an Eddie Izzard DVD and eating apple pancakes.

This author lark's not so bad after all.

Oh, I did also spend some time trying to dress my dog up as Batman but he wasn't having it.

Can't win them all, I guess.

Look at the picture, what does it say

a) Emily has happy outings in nature in her near future
b) Emily has scratches and bruising in her near future
c) Has Emily ever *meet* her dog?
d) Emily is an idiot
e) all of the above

So, I am kind of drifting. I got the first 10k of 'To Love in Fall' done. but the first 10 is always easy, and now the series it was intended for has been cancelled.

I kind of feel like it is time to tackle one of my promised sequels. Anyone want to give me a shove?

RAIN SHADOWS

beneath the leaning
trees - faint stripes
of arid soil
point towards water

sycamore seeds fall in
the cracks - and grow
thriving on false hope
but I know

there is no room
on this river bank
for anyone else
to grow tall

A new review from My Book Cravings:

"For the most part this is a male to male romance which I generally avoid until I read the blurb. I just had to read it. I love dragons and the imagery portrayed herein is awesome. Very well written, beautifully paced and that touch of magic that pulls you into the story."

A short rant about 'The Gay Publishing Company' [sic]

http://www.thegaypublishingcompany.com/

For any publisher, charging a submission fee is simply a terrible, horrible, utterly bad idea. Paying to submit, and not being paid, is vanity publishing. I say that as a person who actually supports vanity publishing as an honest, open business model. But charging and not paying writers--whilst charging readers--and not calling it vanity is neither honest, nor a business model.

This is no just YADS (yet another display site) --

"That is how we can help you—by providing an audience for your work and a platform where agents and publishers and screenwriters and others can come to find a rich assortment of gay-themed literary materials. No longer is your only option to pass a few copies around to some of your closest friends. No, now, you have real options."

-- it is a display site that is attempting to charge both writers ($15 per submission) *and* readers ($36 per year). Add to that it is calling itself a publisher and wrapping itself in the rainbow flag. My mind is so thoroughly boggled it may never unboggle.

Kiwi Romance

I have started a new blog, Kiwi Romance, for romance writers from NZ. It is not going to be an every day blog--I have enough to do. But if you are a Kiwi writer with a blog or a new release, do email me the info ( veinglory AT gmail.com ). I will be happy to add you to the blog roll and post the blurb & cover of your book on its release date.

There is a new review for the Highyway from Anita at the Romance Studio.

"The Highwayman is a very entertaining story due to the turmoil in Reynard’s life. Readers will be very interested in seeing how all his difficulties are resolved. Readers are encouraged to check out this latest in historical romances by Emily Veinglory. "

For Judi

I know there has been a chronic lack of gay zombi penguins. But who needs me when there is this kick arse bunny comic. They are all good but I especially liked this one, and this one, and this one... and this one

and this one

and this one....

A New Review

"Ms. Veinglory has written a powerfully compelling and entirely enchanting story of dragons, magic and love, all the right components for a hauntingly beautiful romance. As for this reader, I can’t wait to revisit this fantasy world and its characters again."

I have already watched all my DVDs. And nothing written in two days.

sob.

The air is stone to hold my hand in place,
for you are mine in everything but this:
to take you into my unchaste embrace,
to steal your breath within a cherished kiss,
to sooth you when your life’s too bright a spark,
to hold your hand, to use your given name,
to rouse you when you languish in the dark…
Who dares to call these thoughts of mine profane,

But I? Who gives and spends my life for you,
Yet knows that these are things I cannot do.

It says something about my writing career to date that I am finding writing MF sex scenes for 'To Love in Fall' rather... odd.

p.s. Hey, 'Father of Dragons' is back to #10 on the Samhain list again.

Well, the weekend is here the TV is bad and I need to find some DVDs to watch. Any suggestions? I prefer TV series with decent plotlines....

Meanwhile, a new review for 'Tongue Tied'.

"This is the first in a new series by Miss Veinglory and while rather tame, I eagerly look forward to the next installment of the story and getting to know Sean and Thane a little better as their loves continues to grow. This story is another winner and I’m certain you’ll enjoy."

Do You Prefer Paper?

I know I mainly write ebooks but with the release of my first trade paperback novel coming up I thought I might point y'all towards the list of all my tree-killing stuff, available to you courtesy of Amazon. Hey, the trees were probably asking for it...

King of Dragons, King of Men

Coming out in paperback on October 30th, KODKOM already has a a sales rank. A less than lofty #148,745 but that means at least one person has pre-ordered it two months in advance!

Confessions of an Illiterate Writer

I have see it everywhere recently, from DearAuthor to Karen Scott. If authors want to be taken seriously they must type with care.

I am aware of the fact that many of my blog and forum posts look like they have been typed by a sleep-deprived chimpanzee. I depend (heavily) on potential readers knowing that I approach writing my manuscripts rather differently, and benefit from the (sometimes extensive) input of my editors.

I have made various efforts to do better on this front but they never seem to last for very long.

iS teh bad typinbg relly such a terruble thng?
