Vampire book reviews; you remember that I was doing this right? Okay, so it's been a while. Anyway....

IN THE DARK is well written but it messed with my head. It has four distinct sections. In the first we meet the vampire hero Georges but learn almost nothing about him. Although it was neutrally written the villains as black men using drugs and sexual prowess to, um, wipe out the white race made me really, really uncomfortable. When this was followed by a section where the male vampire seduces himself a lesbian girlfriend and confronts a lesbian villain--and what subsequently happens to her--well....

The third part is about Georges and his girlfriend Diane being reunited in more ways than one is more comfortable reading. Georges finally became more of a rounded character with vulnerabilities and character. In the final part they journey back to Diane's home and both characters and the relationship become three dimensional and their world and lifestyle are fleshed out, just in time for the book to end.

Frankly this book didn't do much for me. I felt like maybe the writer developed and matured during the writing and if there was a sequel it would hit the ground running with two fully rounded characters as well as a supporting cast of secondary character with potential (but who didn't do very much in this story). I would say this story is worth a look but the four sections are mismatched in genre and quality and some of the content in the earlier parts is politically incorrect to say the least.

So I did it, I bought a Sony ebook reader.

I also blew the day as far as writing goes. It is already 8 pm, I must go wash my hair then see if I can get anything at all written today.

I have a plan for Thanksgiving from tomorrow to next Tuesday. I am going to write the sequel to Eclipse of the Heart. It will be called 'Here Comes the Sun'.

Some years ago Amazon booted off all ebooks not in mobi-format. Interestingly today several of them returned in 'kindle format' along with the release of the Kindle ebook reader.

It looks like a copy of my very first novel Broken Sword sold in the new format. Also newly available are the novella Journey's End (albeit with the wrong cover art) and anthologies including my stories (Creatures of the Night, Vamprotica 2006, and Eternally Noir).

Roomba vacuuming robots have been on the TV lately, ergo I had to buy one. Most people who say me with the box asked to be told if they 'actually work'. I will be happy to oblige. My carpet with pet hair and other nastiness will be a good test case. But currently it is charging....

The word 'homophobia' is generally used these days to refer to a hatred of gay people or discrimination against them. But what is far more widespread is a fear, not of gay people, but of being mistaken for one. During a recent investigation into police personel using a seance as an investigatory method we are told:

The officers had held hands, although not in an "affectionate" way.

Give me a break.

As of November 30th. This will free up several short stories that I am contemplating as using for the basis of an elf-themed collection....
