Okay, so this ebook promotion thing is becoming a real downer. The only thing that has created double-digit clicks is entrecard, and this is probably largely because it has a 'traffic exchange' element. So probably not many customers there. I could really use some suggestions. Today I switched my avatar and sig at romance divas. Token effort, I know. But still something. I also joined several promo yahoogroups to get some more ideas.

Novella in a month is seriously behind schedule. 5548 words. Let the beatings commence.

Today for a change of pace I thought I would try promoting the blog and so promoting the book indirectly. I have tried listing it at freeblogpromotion.com but despite having the reciprocal link up it won't post. I have listed at bloggitizer. But honestly most of these services are a real pain to figure and and use and I am put off this whole approach. See my successful listing here. Yay!

The novella in the month is at 5,410 words.

I am involved in the forums at AbsoluteWrite.com. They have a few places where a member can promote without spamming. 1) The Library where authors can have a thread per genre area. I listed The Sculptor's Muse under romance. 2) The Self-promotion subforum where I put up a post that talks about what I am doing. 3) Avatar and sig line which I changed to The Sculptor's Muse. Promoting the Muse in a Red RoomDespite less than stunning results from AuthorsDen I thought I would try another author community/listing site. Red Room has much sexier look and appealed to me so I started a page there and listed Sculptor's Muse. My Spott ad has been shown "1,580 times on other sites and got 2 clicks." I am demoting below the better performing entrecard ad, and expect to delete it at the end of the month.

I decided to start work concurrently on my other story "Foolish Potions". Word count (albeit if some very rough unedited words) is now a total of 4285.

Promoting the Muse #5: A listing siteI listed myself the The Sculptor's Muse at Authorsden. Pros: free. Cons: no clicks so fare and there are two emailing lists I don't recall signing up for. I went in and signed off one but the other is apparently compulsory if you want a listing.

Novella in a Month #3
I finally got a start on 'The Swan Prince' tonight. 1053 words. I will be home all day tomorrow and hope to do a lot better. I will aim for at least 1000 words a day from now on.

Promoting the Muse #3: Entrecard
Entrecard is another ad swapping site. The system is more complicated and basically involves buying ads with credits. You earn 1/4 of the credits paid to advertise on your site and can also earn them by visiting blogs and just buy them. The advantage is you can choose were you advertise and so should be able to target more effective sites. The disadvantage is the 4:1 exchange rate and that earning credits other way will cost you time or money. Nevertheless entrecard quickly became a top referrer for this blog, more than blogger, spottt, erecsite and google put together. Whether any of this leads to actual increased sales remains to be seen.

I swapped covers spots with Shelley Munro, hence you can see the hot cover of Sex Idol both here and at ERECblog. And The Sculptor's Muse has top spot over at her site. I am open to swapping with other authors. Just send a cover and link to veinglory at gmail.com. The basic deal is one month for one month. I opened a new file, I typed the title. So progress so far=6 words. Tonight I will read the story this will be the sequel to, to make sure the details are fresh in my mind.

Promoting the Muse #2: Link Exchange--Spottt
The basic point of a link exchange is that you show ads for other blogs, and they show ads for you. Spottt is one such system. For every two ad views you give other blogs you get one. Pros: Easy to use, automated once it is in place. Cons: I suspect that for most blogs, probably including this one, the number of actual clickthroughs will be low to nil. So far my ad has been shown 615 times and not been clicked on once. Top referrers to the blog for May so far are Entrecard.com (to be discussed later) and 3 clicks from Spottt's main site (probably me testing the widget).

Promoting the Muse #1: my own websites #1--the blog
The first step was to decide on a target for online promotion. To maximise sales it should be the point of sale. But in order to collect traffic data I have made it this blog. Blogger doesn't have a 'sticky post' feature but I put the cover and synopsis on a post dated May 31st, which will keep it at the top.

Novella in a Month #1
I am breaking the novella goal up because I need to finish some short stories this month. It is still the evening of the 30th right now and I am finishing up my previous project (Mason's Story). I will then start on The Swan Prince. So step #1 is open a new file and type in the title.

The cover art went up today and it already had attracted some attention. Thanks for the mention to Mrs Giggles. Thanks for the great cover design go to Anne Cain.

In case anyone is interested below is my original cover request. The cover is at the end. The novella will be out July 8th, final edits just went in today.

Cover Art Request:

Arun: “A rather ordinary, gangly young man in tidy robes, plain to look at, bookish and a little prim.” Sandy hair, pale skin, solemn demeanor. I see him something like this, a stock pick I have bought if you want to use it.

Arun is going to be a sun priest and he initially sees the wolfkin as a monster of the darkness. Maybe something like this wolf but with a sun not the moon (maybe with Arun in foreground). Or just a simple male face in the dark but lit from above like in this shot (yes of a girl, but you get the idea)>

I would suggest more of a fantasy tone than an MM one (e.g. I love the man torso, but not too centre stage on this one as it is not really full on MM erotica?)

Well, the first draft of my current manuscript is complete. I am not entirely sure what to call it now, possibly Here Comes the Sun, possibly Mason's Story. To be submitted to Loose Id LLC by the end of the month if all goes to plan.

I am a wimp and my dentist knows it, as a result I cannot currently feel my nose. This is better than last time when he worked on my lower teeth and I was left not entirely sure whether I was drooling or not.

This is the third of six visits. And that doesn't include eventually having to deal with a submarine wisdom tooth wedge in between a small tooth and a large nerve. We're saving that for later.

My current estimate is that my dental work will cost approximately 100% of my book royalties for this year. I sure as hell am not enjoying spending this money so it is just as well I enjoyed earning it.

Buy more books please, Mama needs a new post and crown.
